JC’s Alien Babies

You probably heard of Disney’s 2012 big budget flop John Carter. I’ve recently watched the science fiction fantasy western and was not disappointed. That would be for the first 35 minutes only. This is when the film is still set on earth, John gets transported to Mars and mingles with the cutest alien babies ever.

John Carter finds an alien baby hatch, gets picked up with them, brought into town and they get good washing before being held in some sort of dungeon. Anyways, this is where it gets really interesting as for a short moment it looks like JC would have an alien encounter of a very special kind. Sadly, he is not into breastfeeding them! Have a look at the cute and just slighty sexy pictures below.

Face Love Anew

I rarely buy vinyl these days but once in a while there comes a record that is so good I have to get it twice. This one is buy Australian gay gayness duo stereogamous feat. Shaun J Wright. The melancholic deep house song is carried by Shaun’s smooth yet determined vocals. Face Love Anew in XTC.

You might remember Shaun J Wright from the last Hercules & Love Affair album and his solo debut on Andy Butler’s MR INTL label called Forevermore. I had included a remix of Forevermore on one of my minimixes.

Favourite versions of Face Love Anew: the orginal, Jason Kendig and Horse Meat Disco Remix. Listen below.

Lana

Yes, I dressed up as Cloud Atlas for Halloqween. I had been intrigued by the trailer when I decided on the costume.

As you probably know the movie is directed by the Wachowski-Matrix siblings and Tom Tykwer. My fascination with Lana Wachowski started when Mary introduced me to her pink dreads. Want that hair so badly. Lana and her brother haven’t been in the celerity news for years. That changed when they started the promo for Cloud Atlas.

Then Lana Wachowski won the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award. Her speech hit the interwebs last week. It starts with a little story about her hairdresser and just gets better and better.

Lana’s part starts at 4:39.

It’s Going To Be A Gory Hole

Get your strap on for a wet and wild ride on the catpig! Yes, ’tis the season of the Halloqween. It’s time for all the gargoyles to come out to spray their gender fluids on the CryptkeepHer. Lez go.

We have an all star performance line up that will turn the stage into a deep and dark gory hole:
*** Jenna Syde
*** Keith Cole
*** ManChyna
*** The Nurse & Monster
There’s a couple of Hotnuts virgins in the mix, it’s gonna get sticky!!!

And who is the nastiest of them all? $100 goes to the best Halloqween costume! The winner also gets humped by the catpig for ten minutes. Purrrrrrrrrrroink.

Who Is It?

One of my favourite Michael Jackson songs just got the remix treatment by Marc Kinchen. I’m glad this is only happening now, I probably would have died in house remix heaven had this been released in the 90ties.

Not sure if this is better than my favourite Who Is It remix, which is by Moby out of all people, but it’s close.

Hotnuts Christmas with CHRISTEENE

Hotnuts Xmas - 078

This has been the skaniest and most festive Christmas ever. CHRISTEENE kicked the xmas baubles hard. NOW Magazine writes that CHRISTEENE was like Beyonce on bath salts. Really, what more could we have asked for? Watch clips of CHRISTEENE with DJ JJ Booya performing 39-34-39 and Tears From My Pussy at Hotnuts. Both songs are from the just released album WASTE UP, KNEEZ DOWN.

The show started when Mary Messhausen took the stage – wrapped in bows. As it was the birthday of dj das hussy, we had a cake in shape of a vinyl record for our fav lezzie. Of course the cake was vegan.

Then, the Gentlelady Regina opened with her hawt buttered version of the Fiona Apple song Hot Knife.

More photos after the jump – all on flickr.

Finally Some New Roisin

Golden Era, the collaboration between David Morales and Roisin Murphy, appeared a few months ago in one of DM’s dj sets. Now, the disco-house heavy song is finally available in tons of remixes.

Maybe that’s my fav remix, cause it is a bit harder.

Don’t suppose you’d ever miss me
‘Cause to you it’s just ancient history
To you it’s just the same old story
Another fairy tale made of faded glory

Ten Toptions

  1. Hot Chip – Day & Night (Daphni Remix) – Domino Records
To me, this is the only way to listen to Hot Chip. More breaks, less vocals and volle Pulle. Was released as a limited editin 12″ for record store day but is now also available digitally.
  2. Lana Del Rey – Blue Jeans (MK Dark Blue Dub)
Like an old school 90ties MK mix, but better: the trade mark chopped up vocals are back with phatter beats. Marc Kinchen recently returned to house music (besides producing Pitbull) and I’m still in love with him. And not just the music. This is the best of the 3 remixes he did of Blue Jeans. You were sorta punk rock. You were sorta punk rock. You were sorta punk rock.
  3. Shalamar – Make That Move (AC Re-Edit)
Recently found this re-edit of Shalamar’s disco classic. The full vocals only kick in at the 4 min mark. Until then the remixes rides on the feel good rhythm. LOVE IT. Free download.
  4. Jesse Perez – Dejen De Comer Tanta Pinga – Hot Creations
Gets the dance floor going every time.
  5. The KDMS – Wonderman (Original) / Wonderman feat. Alexis Taylor (Justus Köhncke remix) – Gomma
Kathy Diamond is the lead singer of duo KDMS, who just released their album ‘Kinky Dramas & Magic Stories‘. The current single is Wonderman Listen to the original version and the cover/remix with vocals by Alexis Taylor (of Hot Chip) remixed Justus Köhncke. BAM.
  6. Todd Terje – Inspector Norse – Olsen/Smalltown Supersound
    Nordic nu disco no brainer.
  7. Tornado Wallace – Insect Overlords – Delusions Of Grandeur
    Deep & dark.
  8. ArttuAttic House (Gerd’s Re-Arrange-Mix) – 4Lux
Arttu – Nuclear Funk feat. Jerry The Cat – Clone Royal Oak
  9. Deichkind – Leider Geil (Solomun Remix) – Universal
    Das deutsche Haus.
  10. Usher – Climax (Poupon Edit)
This is the pitched down vocals – sped up beats version. Although, I still can’t get enough on the original Climax.

Wildness

Rooted in the tropical underground of Los Angeles nightlife, WILDNESS is a documentary portrait of the Silver Platter, a historic bar in the MacArthur Park area that has been home for Latin/LBGT immigrant communities since 1963. With a magical-realist flourish, the bar itself becomes a character, narrating what happens when a group of young artists create a weekly performance art/dance party (organized by director Wu Tsang and DJs NGUZUNGUZU & Total Freedom) called Wildness, which explodes into creativity and conflict. What does “safe space” mean, and who needs it? And how does it differ among us? At the Silver Platter, the search for answers to these questions creates coalitions across generations.

The Idler Wheel

Fiona Apple recently revealed the self-drawn, mega-ugly cover to her first album in seven years, which is supposed to drop June 26. I couldn’t be more excited and have listened to her last one, Extraordinary Machine on repeat. Remember the Not About Love video? It features everyone’s favourite gay-acting bear Zach Galifianakis lip-synching Fiona’s lyrics. Such fun!

Ms Apple is coming to Toronto July 4th. Tickets go on sale this Friday 4-20.

Lana Del Reymixes

I know you’ve all been waiting for a top 3 of the best Lana Del Reymixes.
Number one is a free download, number 2 & 3 get extra credit for the gay gayness bonher cover.

Update: Below is a MK remix of Blue Jeans. This might be the true #1.

Hotnuts on a WilderMess Safari

This was the biggest Hotnuts yet and we almost got lost in the WilderMess. I really wouldn’t have mind if there was no way out. So much fun at The Garrison. Thanks everybody for coming out and dressing up.

The HD stage really got the girls going. Mary re-wrote MJB’s hit into a Deep InsideHer Ass. Then, the grinding wonder Miss Jamaica took over with her 4:20 heavy jams. The staggering beats by Dj No Problem got us whining & screaming. Such a hot WilderMess!

Watch clips of Miss Jamaica’s and Mary’s performances after the jump.
Also, more pictures and all pics on flickr.

Fab Nuts Now

The assistant that we hired five years ago to collect all of our press clippings finally had one busy day. Mary Messhausen, produzentin and El Bear Ho are on the cover of Toronto’s fab magazine.
Download your copy here with more pics inside.

And then we did a cute interview with Now Magazine for Hotnuts on a WilderMess Safari.

Dufferin Mall drag queens by Kevin Ritchie

The Garrison is getting a drag makeover. After five years at the Beaver, popular gay dance party HotNuts will upgrade to the Dundas West club and take place every third month.

While pop rules the west-end gay scene, HotNuts is a haven of deep house and DIY couture that’s welcomed performers like the House of Monroe and local drag institution Michelle DuBarry. On Saturday (March 31), dancehall queen Miss Jamaica takes the stage.

Ahead of the event’s comeback, NOW had a three-way phoner with resident DJ Produzentin and host Mary Messhausen to find out what goes into their neo-drag look.

What do you do to prepare for HotNuts?

MARY: Two weeks before the party, Proddy and I go to Dufferin Mall to see the newest collection at Voluptuous, our favourite designer. Second-favourite is Comme des Garçons.

PRODDY: We’re hoping now that this media blitz is starting, the CEO of Voluptuous will call Mary and ask her to do her own line.

MARY: We’re talking major Dufferin Mall collaboration. There will be a lineup of tens of people outside.

Memorable HotNuts moments?

MARY: I have to mention Mama Messhausen, my sly old mother, who did a couple of performances. That’s always a treat. She sang traditional Filipino love songs and did Proud Mary. Right before she sang it she said, “I’m singing this song because I’m so proud of my Mary.”

PRODDY: It was a real tearjerker.

MARY: And Proddy, what are your fave moments?

PRODDY: When Miss Margot came as Britney Spears and threw chicken wings and Cheetos at the audience and slipped on the floor, which she’d greased with Red Bull. There was a nice sweet smell of Red Bull all over the Beaver that night.

What’s your beauty regime on the day of the party?

MARY: We start with a three-quarter chicken dinner from Swiss Chalet.

PRODDY: The last time we had the half-chicken, it wasn’t enough, but we don’t want to order a full chicken because we feel too ashamed.

MARY: Never do drag makeup on an empty stomach. After we eat, it’s a good hour and a half to get the dolls ready to hit the stage.

That’s not so bad.

PRODDY: If we douche, it takes a little longer.

EEEEEEEEW So Good

I’ve never seen a skank like her. Check out CHRISTEENE.
L O V E that she has D U M P written on her knuckles.

We’re fed big sugar-coated turds everyday on television and in the news and the magazines and we greedily eat it up like dirty babies. CHRISTEENE is giving you that stank turd without the diamond sugar on it. It’s the same thing. It’s the real thing. Eat it. (source)

Thx ShoSho

Hotnuts is back March 31

420 Fantasy

After I read the interview with Claire Boucher / Grimes (below) in which she mentions that she had a 4:20 Mariah Fantasy and that MC is her favourite singer, I couldn’t be skeptical any longer. And I mean about what? The Montreal native has just released a gay-impact video to the pop hit single Oblivion featuring her naturally high-pitched voice.

There is only one wish: In the last scene of the video, where Claire is wearing a hoodie and then turning around, facing the camera, wouldn’t it been cute if she wore a skull mask – as a reference to the Visions album cover?

SUCH FUN!

On a side note: What is happening to me? I’m listening to more and more Canadian music. First The Weeknd, now Grimes. What’s next? Bieber?

Claire Boucher: (…) Mariah Carey is my favorite singer because her voice sounds utterly groundless. It’s not even a human voice; it almost sounds mechanical.

Pitchfork: How did you first get into Mariah?

Claire Boucher: In 2007 or 2008, I started listening to R&B on this road trip with my dad because we couldn’t agree on anything else. I smoked weed and listened to “Fantasy” and felt something I’d never felt before [laughs]– yeah, that makes me sound so ignorant. But then I slowly started gravitating more toward female singers, because I was able to relate. In medieval Christian thought, it was assumed that the better you were as a singer, the purer your heart was. I don’t necessarily think that’s true, but Mariah Carey has the voice of someone who has never done evil. (source)

Back To The But Better

As I haven’t done dj charts in awhile this is almost a very late best of 2011 house and disco list. Listen and download my new disco house mini mix, which includes song of the songs below. Track list on soundcloud.

  1. Prince Club – Love Jackson
This is basically a four to the floor remix of Janet Jackson’s Someone To Call My Lover with sloooooowed down vocals. Also, check out the Club’s Sax Bomb.
  2. Solomun – Love Recycled 1 – 2DIY4
Samples Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgetting” which was turned into the hip-hop hit “Regulate” by Warren G in the 90ties.
  3. SSION – Weird Yearz (das hussy remix)
My dj bff hussy came up with the bubbling trance house version of the SSION hit.
  4. Storm Queen – It Goes On / Look Right Through (Jamie Jones Remix) – Environ
Morgan Geist’s Storm Queen project has been on every bodies playlist last year. At the end of February MK will provide additional remixes in his classic 90ties chopped up vocal style.
  5. Daphni – Ahora – Amazing Sounds
Art Department feat Soul Clap – We Call Love (Daphni Remix) – Crosstown Rebels
Daphni is the house side of Caribou’s Dan Snaith. Ahora and the We Call Love remix are both very funky and trippy house workouts. Perfect for the dance floor. Crazy synths included.
  6. Lady Gaga – Marry The Night (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix) – Interscope
Gets rid of almost all of Gaga’s vocals and turn Marry into a monster.
  7. Britney Spears – Toxic (Hrdvision Remix)
Britney will never be more trance than this. Make sure to watch the video which is perfectly matched to the slowed down version.
  8. Shaun J Wright – Forevermore (Hazed Mix by Ha-Ze Factory) – Mr. INTL
The bass line is so addictive for the dance floor. Paired with Hercules & Love Affair vocalist Shaun’s voice this is such a classic house treat.
  9. Max Essa – How Do You Feel (Kim Ann Foxman Remix) – NeedWant
Mario Basanov – Lonely Days – NeedWant
Coyote – Always (Neville Watson Remix) – NeedWant
Just three of my favourite songs from the London based NeedWant label specializing in house / disco / tropical.
  10. Light Fires – 10 ft. Tall / If You’re Bored
Regina The GentleLady is the front drag queen of the Light Fires. We had her perform at Hontuts many times and every time she brought the house down. Watch If You’re Bored on the tiny Hotnuts stage.
  11. Sylvester – Band of Gold (Gay Marvine Re-Edit) -Secret Mixes Fixes
  12. Omar S presents – Who Wrote The Rules of Love (Shadow Ray Remix) – FXHE
  13. Lisa Stansfield – People Hold On (KOKO Re-Edit) – Gamm
  14. Die Vögel – Fratzengulasch – Pampa Records
Always fun to drop a German language song into a dj set.
  15. DJ Jus Ed – I’m Com’In (Levon Vincent Remix) – Underground Quality
  16. Tracey Thorn – You Are a Lover (Clock Opera Remix) – Strange Feeling
Love the Klaviergeklimpere of the remix.
  17. Billy Ray Martin – Sweet Suburban Disco (Vince Clark Remix) – Disco Activisto
  18. Jessica 6 – White Horse (Populette Remix) – Peacefrog
  19. Paul McCartney – Coming Up (Justus Köhncke’s Extended Tribute)
This will probably be the only PMC song that I’m into. Also love the video with lots of Paul’s.
  20. Hercules & Love Affair – Shelter -Moshi Moshi
It’s a pity that this stunning house cover of The XX was not included on the H&LA album. Kim Ann Foxman’s voice sounds so fresh and clear. Was first released as the B-Side to the Painted Eyes single and later avaiable as  a bonus track to the American re-release of the album.
  21. Omar S – Solely Supported – FXHE Records
  22. Miguel Migs feat. Meshell Ndegeocello – Close Your Eyes (Deetron Remix) – OM Records
Meshell’s smooth vocals over an acid house track. YES!
  23. Shirley Murdock – As We Lay (Pirahnahead’s Inside Out Mix)
Enya – Orinoco Flow [Sail Away] (Pirahnahead Remix)
If you’re looking for classic soulful house, these Pirahnahead remixes are the way to go.
  24. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – Garden (Jesse Rose Remix) – Made To Play
  25. Eli Escobar feat. Nomi Ruiz – Desire – Plant Music
Whether Nomi sings with Jessica 6 or on this one, I can’t resist her voice.
  26. Kyle Hall – Ghosten – Third Ear
    Melancholic house at it’s best.
  27. Manuel Tur feat. Holly Backler – Most of this Moment – Freerange Records
We’re having Big Fun! Inner City says HI.
  28. Hrdvision – I Can’t Exist – Areal Records
  29. Toddla T feat. Roisin Murphy – Cherry Picking
Still waiting on a new album from Ms. Murphy. This dubby song helped a bit. Was first released on red vinyl with a cut out cherry cover.
  30. Justus Köhncke – Fussmachine – Nang Records
  31. Pteradactil Disco – Big Ass Biscuit – Hot Creations
Has a total Detroit Grand Pubahs vibe coming from the nasty lyrics and the four to the floor beat. It’s part of a minimix I did last April.

Millie is The Best

Just watched the documentary Unsung about soul-singer Millie Jackson this morning. She is such a funny lady and I love her. It’s great to see how much Millie was and is in control of her life. One of my favourite quotes from the documentary is a piece of advice Millie gave Roxanne Shanté: “You’ll be known and you’ll be successful a lot longer for the nasty things that come out of your mouth than the nasty things you put in it.”

If you have only have 3 minutes, watch the best of Unsung below.

Comme des Garçons New Perfume Won’t Stand

My dear friend Mary Messhausen recently gave me the new Comme des Garçons perfume as a gift. Ever since I had that irresistible stank on me.

The scent is described as “an industrialized flower to go with glue, an imaginary flower from an unknown civilization”. I’d say the first idea that came to my mind is bug repellant with a hint of tape. Of course its turns around after a few minutes and becomes lilac and glue. Such a hot pheromone.

It’s old school CdG in a recycled, partially hand blown bottle. That won’t stand up.
I’ve been trying for weeks now. Watch the clip above.

She’s So HD She’s Hitler Didi

Hitler Didi

Yes, we screamed at the TV in disbelieve when we saw Hitler Didi show up on the screen while we were in India. In direct translation, the daily soap would be called Sister Hitler.

I wish it was available in English but we had to make do with the Hindi version and lots of silent looks that the actors shared with each other. And there’s children screaming “Hitler Didi” at the opening of the series. Listen & Watch.

Explain the back story, Hitler Siri:

Weighed down considerably by the enormous responsibility of single-handedly providing for her large family, young Indira Sharma (played by Rati Pandey) throws herself into the daunting task. The well-being of her family becomes her sole agenda in life. In facing the daily challenges thrown her way on both the home and work front, she loses her sense of humour and her ability to feel finer emotions. She becomes a regimental disciplinarian, a workaholic and a perfectionist who is almost always on the verge of losing her cool.
