Watched the season finale of Curb your Enthusiasm by chance and saw the funniest pre-gay kid.

The Élixir Végétal de la Grande-Chartreuse is a liqueur made by Cartusian Monks after a receipe from 1605. Named after the monastry near Grenoble, this herbal schnapps is 69% strong, just what the lady needs. It’s best consumed by drip dropping it on a tiny spoon filled with sugar. So yummy! 130 medicinal and aromatic plants and flowers never tasted better.
Especially after a big meal, the Élixir Végétal does wonders to a full tummy. You can basically eat the same amount again.
The liqueur is sold in small wooden-covered bottles. Probably to prevent it from turning bad from the sun light but who can keep this bottle hidden for long?
(Thanks Ms. Webelwood)
For the last few days, I could not listen to anything else but The Weeknd. It’s the r&b project of Toronto-based 21 year old singer Abel Tesfaye. He released his first free mixtape, House of Balloons, in March and the second album ‘Thursday’ followed earlier in August. Supposedly, a third long player is due before the end of the year, titled Echoes of Silence.
So, the young one is pumping it out like crazy. Got twittered, hyped, collaborated and all-in-all supported by fellow Torontonian Drake. Of course, he’s been the talk on all the bloggies and whatever else it’s called. Recently, the song ‘High For This’ was featured in the trailer for the final season of HBO’s Entourage. By now, I’m actually a little scared that I’m turning straight. Anyways, here is a pfun clip of ‘High For This’ from The Weeknd’s first ever concert at the Mod Club in Toronto, July 2011.
Most of the songs are slow, moody numbers – hot vocals, falsetto – sex & drug references on top. There are Aaliyah and Beach House samples, chunky guitar outbreaks. And this probably not the last time I’m falling for music that carries some Prince and Kanye – 808s & Heartbreak – influences.
I’m wondering, when he sings about new glass tables in ‘House Of Balloons – Glass Table Girls’, does this really mean The Weeknd is all about Glass Bottom Boats? Me thinks YES, he’s going right thurrr. Although, rapgenius says otherwise but what do they know?
And we can test out the tables
Got some brand new tables
All glass and its four feet wide
But it’s a must to get us ten feet high
…
Bring out the glass tables
If after all the downbeat druggyness you feel the need to crawl out from under the layers of smoke and get hit by a four to the floor beat, listen to the Prince Club remix of The Morning. Does the trick!

My not-so-secret pug obsession is running into ovHERdrive. I bought German literature: Nicht ohne meinen Mops, you guessed it: Not Without My Pug. Es ist ein “WG-Roman”; all about the Turbulenzen of sharing a flat. The pug in the book is called “Earl of Cockwood”, and of course belongs to a faggy fag. Coincidence?
Tanja found her dream apartment in downtown Stuttgart. Too bad she can’t afford it by herself and so she’s hosting a casting for flat mates. Tanja decides on Chris, a florist who works at a call centre and Rolf, a mailman who moves in with his pug “Earl of Cockwood”. Tanja is head over heels for these guys. Of course she is the last to know that Chris and Rolf are becoming a couple.

Thanks Zesty.

Just came back to Frankfurt from a little trip to Mallorca where I scored Missoni towels and a small zig zag cushion. Last night, I stumbled upon the first pictures of the Missoni for Target collection that is going to be in stores in the US on September 13. A couple of pictures of the cutest homeware items below. I really need to get the blanket. Target.com doesn’t ship to Canada, so I think a shopping spree to Buffalo is in the cards once I’m back in Toronto.
If a Missoni bike and cushions are not for you there’s also tons of Italian patterned clothing.

Oh sweet make up dolls! A Cindy Sherman and Mac Cosmetics collaboration is hitting the counters September 28.
Can’t wait to smear the clown shet all over my Gesicht. XOXO

If you haven’t downloaded the new SSION album BENT yet, I really don’t know what you’re waiting for. It’s one of the best albums of the year! Maybe the best. If that doesn’t convince you, it’s also a free (scroll way down).
Perfect pop music. Yes, she did it.
*** Favourite line: “Don’t be a queen, just be a dragon” vs Lady Gaga’s “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen”
*** Top 40 hit: My Love Grows in the Dark
*** Only song to skip: Blonde With U
*** What gives me sleepless nights: Where is song number 7 in the download? Freaking out about it!
*** SSION website by Ryder Ripps who has collaborated with M.I.A. and Ryan Trecartin
*** Und die Punk Zöpfe sind abgeschnitten

SSION performed in Toronto on Sunday at Vazaleen. Here is the end of PSY-CHIC, which is also the first single off of the album. I wish had had recorded more, but I couldn’t stand still any longer.
And here is a clip from last year when Cody performed at Hotnuts.
Join us in the Toronto Pride Parade this Sunday.

The Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) Dreams BIG at Pride Toronto this year! AGYU and artist Matthew-Robin Nye team up with the Trans, Bi, Lesbian, Gay Alliance at York (TBLGAY), York Federation of Students (YFS), and the SexGen York Committee for the We Demand Redux with a booth at the Pride Street Fair on Saturday July 2nd to Sunday July 3rd and a specially designed float in the 31st annual Pride Parade on Sunday 3rd July 2011, starting at 2pm at Bloor and Church Street.
This year marks the 40-year anniversary of the ‘We Demand’ March in Canada. The march was comprised of about 150 men and women on a rainy day on Parliament Hill in Ottawa with placards stating ‘We Demand!’ with a list of ten required amendments to the Canadian constitution on items related to sexuality.
We Demand Redux is a series of actions, which bring attention to issues facing the Queer community today. Functioning as an education campaign, We Demand Redux honours the history of the Gay Rights and affiliated movements over its 40-year history in Canada. This open-ended campaign is an homage to the leaders of this community both present and past who have shaped one of the most progressive democracies in world history. We Demand Redux empowers the audience to create their own demands, give voice to their frustrations, and issues of interest during the Pride Parade.
The We Demand Redux demands your attention and participation! With a custom designed float and message campaign – visible through tshirts, placards, ballots, and the York University booth – the We Demand Redux looks at the past and forward to the future of Queer activism in Canada. Backing up the redux, DJ Produzentin and Mary Messhausen perform live, bouncing the truck with a heavy, house-pop remix.
How to participate:
DEMONSTRATE! March with us in the Pride Parade
SUBMIT! Your demands at the wedemand.tumblr.com
VISIT! The booth to cast your ballot in person.
SUPPORT! Partner with the project.
The We Demand Redux strives to provide a galvanized platform for all to draw attention to the history of LGBT activism in Canada, contemporary issues faced by members of the broad queer community, the de-politicized nature of the Pride Parade, and to reinvigorate an exciting history.

That was the perfect last Hotnuts at The Beaver, where we always felt at home. Thank you Beaver team & much love. Now, after 5 years, the magical carpet is going to take us to a new destination.
Thanks to all Genie’s for making last Friday such a special night and keeping the mirage alive. Watch Gentlelady Regina’s performance at the end of this post. There was a serious camera malfunction during Nancy’s XXX number (aka she is incontinent), so we can’t post it hurrr.

This is the last Hotnuts at The Beaver. After 5 years of fun, we’re sad to leave but also looking forward to new adventures. Hotnuts will be back at a new venue after a summer break.
Make this a scheherazadian night & dress up with us for Genie in a Hotnut: Return to Dubai! Let the Fata Morgana come down on The Beaver.
For this special occasion we have two performers:
Gentlelady Regina
Her first ever performance was on the Hotnuts stage in September 2010. Since then, Regina and the Light Fires have taken the city by storm.
Doc Nancy
She’s Proddy’s drag mother. We spent months convincing her to make the trip from Frankfurt and leave the home for elderly people behind.

Could this be the first signs of what’s to come for Walter’s summer 2012 show: Cloud #9?

At first I was scared because the music at the beginning of the song sounds like Bruce Springsteen.
Then came the holes. Then the neuronal spaghetti person. She’s scuuured now.

That was the perfect 5th Hotnuts anniversary. Thank you all for dressing up and packing the Lobster Beach Resort.
Keith Cole’s performance took a couple of hours as he installed a Hotnuts birthday sign across the street from The Beaver. The scaffolding of the Bohemian Embassy never looked so beautiful. The audience inside couldn’t be happier: they got a shower of pink lobster spawn from Mary and me and hot clam chowder from Wilbur Junior. What more can you ask for, really?

Pedro Almodovar’s new movie The Skin I Live In will have it’s premiere in Cannes next week. The film’s poster could also be an ad for Bodyworlds. This better be a good sign. Apparently the movie is based on Thierry Jonquet’s novel “Mygale”, this revenge tale tells the story of a plastic surgeon on the hunt for the men who raped his daughter. It’s also the first time in 21 years that Antonio Banderas is going to be featured in an Almodovar film.
In this still from the movie actress Elena Anaya looks like she’s wearing a Margiela bodysuit.
I mean I have not seen one from La Maison MM like this, but couldn’t it be?

More on that soon.

I just finished Tina Fey’s fun memoir, anecdote collection Bossypants. If you’re watching 30 Rock, you’re definitly going to be reminded of Liz Lemon in some parts. One of the best chapters is “Amazing, Gorgeous, Not Like That” in which Tina goes on about photo shoots for magazines and Photoshop:
“Do I think Photoshop is being used excessively? Yes. I saw Madonna’s Louis Vuitton ad and honestly, at first glance, I thought it was Gwen Stefani’s baby.
Do I worry about overly retouched photos giving women unrealistic expectations and body image issues? I do. I think that we will soon see a rise in anorexia in women over seventy. Because only people over seventy are fooled by Photoshop.”
(…)
“Why can’t we accept the human form as it is?” screams no one. I don’t know why, but we never have. That’s why people wore corsets and neck stretchers and powdered wigs.
If you’re going to expend energy being mad about Photoshop, you’ll also have to be mad about earrings. No one’s ears are that sparkly! They shouldn’t have to be!

Lady Darling took the stage and made love to her sister mannequin sex troll doll. All the bingo trolls in the house were screaming: BINGO! It was almost like on Planet Bingo. Just fyi: Bingo means troll in Bingonese.

We’re back from our short little break and the dolls are reloaded. It was supposed to be Mannequin Hotnuts because of the performance that Lady Darling has planned. Then last weekend, when Mary and I went fabric shopping for our outfits, we discovered a ‘bingo troll’ print. We couldn’t leave it rotting in the sale bin. It’s going to be a true Messhausen dress for da Mary, who will also do a hot bingo troll appearance.
So here we go: Mannequin Bingo Troll Hotnuts!

It’s been 4 years since Roisin Murphy released Overpowered. She put out a few songs after the album but keeps us waiting for a full on disco house fest. In an recent interview the singer revealed that she is working on a new record, that is supposedly coming from a “deeper place”.
I just hope she comes out with an album this year. To make the wait a little bit shorter, a limited edition 12″ of Roisin’s collaboration with Toddla T, Cherry Picking, was released last weekend for Record Store Day. I would love to get my mittens on the red vinyl that comes in a mega cherry simulating sleeve. The song is from TT’s new album that is scheduled for August (check this link for the first single, also super cute). Roisin Murphy had first worked with Toddla T for the remix of You Know Me Better.
Apparently this is a well know joke in Bavaria and maybe all over Germany. Maybe worldwide?
My friend Sabs made me listen to Wuthering Heights today and said listen closely, right after the chorus you can hear Kate sing in German:
“Ich steh’ im Cafe und hab’ Hunger”
I will never hear it differently. Too funny.
Are there any more secret German messages in English pop songs? I’m intrigued.
“Heathcliff, it’s me, Cathy, I’ve come home”
‘Rise of the Apes’ is set in present day San Francisco where man’s experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence of apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. (source)
That is the sentence that got me into the apes almost a year ago. I had forgotten about it up until I found the trailer today. And now it stars James Franco. Hopefully, there is an ape – human sex scene!
Anyways, I’m very much entertained by the fun-romantic-creepiness picture above.
Last week Mary Messhausen and I were in New York for Cosima von Bonin’s opening. Surprise: It got a little bit messy. Mary kicked me to the curb and then she (as in I) lost in ring in all the garbageness. But it was so comfy.

Clearly, Mariah’s twins are bout to pop any day now. I can’t wait for her to announce the names.
MC recently tweeted the picture above. Butterfly dem babies!

This super cute picture of Kate Bush was uploaded on her facebook today. Of course today also saw the release of the re-recorded Deeper Understanding single, soon to appear on Kate’s new album of reworks, Director’s Cut. The song first appeared on 1993′s The Sensual World. Instead of the Trio Bulgarka singing the chorus, this time around, we can hear Kate’s son Albert impersonating the computer programme in schräge filter mode. Listen below.

Coming Up is a disco funk US & Canadian number one single released by Paul McCartney in the spring of 1980. I got into it when I found a disco re-edit by Justus K the other day. The video features 10 Paul and 2 Linda McCartneys and a drum kit print of “Plastic Mac Band” poking fun at John Lennon’s and Yoko Ono’s “Plastic Ono Band”. I’ve never been into the former Beatles music or his humor but here we go.

Nomi Ruiz, vocalist on the first Hercules & Love Affair album, released a new single with her band Jessica 6 today. I love Nomi’s voice, which is perfect for this pop/house song with a little bit of dance melancholy on top. Almost a year ago, I wrote about the first J6 single, Fun Girl – which has a fun video.
Jessica 6′s album, See The Light, will be out this May.
Another single got the remix treatment today – though streaming only – My House by Hercules & The Love Affair. This one is by Andy Butler’s former lover, Derrick Carter. He had previously remixed one of my favourite tracks from the first H&LA album, You Belong with Nomi on lead vocals. So, we heard this pairing before, but I can’t resist Derrick Carter’s bouncy Chicago beats. He turned My House up for a bigger dance floor.

I first saw this clip when Cody Critcheloe of SSION tweeted it two weeks ago. Forgot about it and remembered today.
This afternoon I thought, it would be genius to have Ke$ha at Hotnuts with her vapid lyrics and exactly this performance. On the other hand, the tiny German flags on the backup dancers’ outfits make me want to roll my eyes into the back of my head. Or to quote a line from the song: “Our bodies going numb.” But I don’t want to let these things take the great camp of the performance away from me.

Dear quizzers,
After a way too long break I finally found the time for a new mathematical quiz on the occasion of my birthday.
Exactly three years ago I celebrated my 25th birthday in the Australian summer. As you all know they have the cutest animals down under: wombats, possums, duckbill platypi and roos. I loved all of them. But most interesting I found a strange breed of chameleons I was able to observe at an outback farm. These chameleons are either black or silver or pink. But they don’t change their color in order to disguise themselves like ordinary chameleons they changed their color according to some strange mechanism.
Whenever two chameleons of different colors snuggle up together they switch to the third color. Like when a black and a siver chameloeon snuggle they both turn pink and so on. When two chameleons have the same color, nothing happens. As these cute little creatures need a lot of love, this mechanism provided a wonderfull natural phenomen. They changed their color back and forth and i was immediately mesmerized. But suddendly i realized that as soon as all chameleons on the farm have the same color they will not be able to change their color anymore. Stricken with fear i counted them. There were 13 black, 15 silver and 17 pink chameleons.
Then I started thinking, if it might be possible that these 45 chameleons all have the same color at some point because they snuggle up in an awkward order. What do you think: Is it possible that this happens – even if it is very unlikely – or is it generally impossible? Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have anymore questions. I am looking forward to your answers and your arguments.
Full of love and numbers, your
Dr. Nancy
