Womanity is the invisible bond between women.
It looks like this campaign was made for produzentin.com. It’s that look.
A distinctive fragrance that will play its notes according to the emotions of all women.
An engaging, mysterious and full of contrast scent is built around the theme of the fig fruit, a powerful symbol of femininity, with an exceptional fig and caviar accord. The inspiration for this innovative scent comes from the Cyclades Island of Greece, where the sweet smell of fig trees is mixed with the salty sea breeze of the ocean.
And for 2011, can we get: Manity – The secret bond between Man and Manatee?
Just a quick note on my favourite album of 2010: Erykah Badu’s New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh).
Feels like I had it with me evreywhere: at the cottage, at home, on flights and the remix below in the early dj sets.
Read Rich’s review over at fourfour, I could not have said it better.
My favourite box set of 2010 is The Chic Organisation – Vol. 1 Savoir Faire. There you have it. I find it very hard to write about Chic, the band. Where to begin? – They have been such a big part of disco, pop and hip-hop. Wouldn’t it be super boring to list the most successful production work that Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers have done outside of Chic?
Diana Ross – diana with the singles “Upside Down” and “I’m Coming Out”
David Bowie – Let’s Dance
Madonna – Like A Virgin
Mick Jagger – She’s The Boss
Duran Duran – The Reflex and Wild Boys singles / Notorious
Grace Jones – Inside Story
B 52’s – Cosmic Thing
I mean, you might as well just read their Wikipedia page. Of the above, the Savoir Faire set only has the Diana Ross singles, although in different mixes. Apparently, Ms Ross didn’t like the funky Chic version of the album, so she went back into the studio with one of her well-known Motown engineers and remixed the whole record. And that’s the version that we all became to know.
What is in this box set then? Of course, there are the biggest Chic hits like “Le Freak” (which was supposed to be called “Fuck Off”, written on New Years Eve 1977 after Rodgers and Edwards couldn’t get past the bouncer of Studio 54), “Good Times” (which can’t be mentioned without Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” and being the inspiration for the bass line to Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust”), “Everybody Dance” and “I Want Your Love”.
With some of the hits on the compilation I have the feeling that I can’t listen to them anymore. Not that I don’t like them, but I heard them so many times either in original, sampled or remixed form that I need little break. I know them too well. But really that’s only “Good Times”, “Le Freak” and “We Are Family”.
The box set also includes 5 new remixes by Dimitri from Paris. These new versions of the disco classics are almost worth the whole box set alone. Even if these remixes only provide a new spin on well known disco staples like Sister Sledge’s “Lost In Music”, they don’t sound tired. Au contraire, these remixes sound very 2010 to me, with so much new disco coming out anyways. Their extended intros and breakdowns are perfect for slipping them into a current dj set. My two favourite Dimitri remixes on the box are “Thinking Of You” by Sister Slegde and “Saturday” by Norma Jean Wright.
“Saturday” originally appeared on Norma Jean’s solo album from 1978 which was released shortly after the first Chic album, on which she was the lead vocalist. The song sums up the disco area with its living-for-the-party-on-Saturday and being-bleak-and-dull-during-the-week theme. But really, nothing has changed for the weekend warriors of this world. The build up to the song that Dimitri has created has to be one of the most over the top intros ever. Listen below.
I just want to explode after hearing this.
I JUST CAN’T WAIT TIL SATHHHHUUUUUURDAY.
Earlier this year, I became aware of Johnny Mathis’ unreleased “I Love My Lady” album, produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards in 1980/81, around the same time they worked with Diana Ross. Johnny’s record label, concerned with the image of the all American crooner, thought the disco set would alienate his mom and grandmother audience and shelved the Chic collaboration. They didn’t know he would come out as an homosexual one year later, only to retract his statements in 1983.
Savoir Faire features 3 of the previously unreleased songs. I can recommend to track down whole album on the interwebz: the stripped down funky sound of Chic paired with Johnny’s smooth and silky voice is a great match.
“It turns out that Michael had been advised to take more of a fashion look with his presentation, and he had asked to see designs from some really big names, including, I believe, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. My impression is that he got all these packages from these different designers and then he chose who he wanted to work with.
When he got my package, they called me right away and said he that Michael was jumping up and down screaming, saying “I’ve always wanted to do this! I’ve always wanted to do this!”
“And then of course there was the light-up outfit for Billie Jean, which was a collaboration with Philips Technology, which really, really made him the happiest. The last time I saw him was about six days before we were leaving for London, and I tried these pants on him and he was silent; completely stunned. After about thirty seconds, he said “It’s everything I’ve always wanted.”

Hercules & Love Affair will return with a new album at the end of January 2011, called Blue Songs.
The first taste of the new album, My House, features new vocalist Shaun Wright and has Hercules sounding housier than ever.
When I saw the band perform in Toronto this summer, I got very excited about their new music. The new Hercules sounded pushier, less disco, going more into an acid and deep house direction. Can’t wait for Blue Songs.
I’m so addicted to two songs by jj. How can you resist the opening lines of “Fuck all you hoes? Get a grip.” sung in sweet melancholic tones that turns out to be a balearic r&b number. What? “Let Them” samples Akon’s – Right Now (Na Na Na) and incorporates lyrics from T.I.’s – Let Them Talk.
The second song of the Swedish duo that is on repeat over hurr is ceo birthday, a cover version of Birthday Sex, turned into a piano ballad that skips the Birthday Sex chorus.
You can download ceo birthday and let them for free from sincerely yours, jj’s label.
Aside from all the tracks below, my favourite album right now is Chic Organization Box Set Volume 1 – “Savoir Faire”. It has so many disco classics, some are remixed for the first time by Dimitri from Paris. It’s a treasure.
Lee Foss – U Got Me EP – Hot Creations U Got Me and Run Around are the little bit old school chopped up vocal hits that were released this summer.
Bon Iver – Woods (das hussy Remix)
Months ago, I begged das hussy to remix Woods by Bon Iver. And when she did, I was in deep house heaven. Listen and download.
Kim Ann Foxman – Creature / What You Need – MR. INTL
I almost wish it was a little bit less 90ties and more recent sounding. Love it anyhow.
Storm Queen – Look Right Through (Vox) – Environ
Produced by Morgan Geist “featuring the vocal talents of Damon C. Scott. Scott and Geist met on the NYC subways where Scott performs.”
Dennis Ferrer – The Red Room (Kyle MF Hall MeMix) – Objektivity
This is hands down one of my favourite remixes in a long time. Raw beats & hard stuttering.
Andy Butler & Jason Kendig – And I’m (So In Love With You) – MR. INTL
Another Mr INTL release that will help us with the wait for the new Hercules & Love Affair album.
I’m really excited for the new Michael Jackson album that was announced today. “By Epic Records in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson.” YES. It’s going to be released December 14.
Next week, a new song, titled ‘Breaking News’ is going to premiere on MichaelJackson.com. This has me even more excited because the song’s name reminds me of one of my MJ favourites: Tabloid Junkie from HIStory. It’s all about celebrity paranoia (best subject) and he sings: “They say he’s homosexual.” I always have to giggle on that line.
As I am a total fan, I LOVE the album cover. It has a little Dangerous cover feeling, welches ich auch liebe! In case you were wondering about the origins of the MICHAEL album cover:
The attached image of the album cover of MICHAEL was created by painter Kadir Nelson in 2009. In the oil painting, Kadir – who is known for story telling through his art – takes us on a journey through some key moments and important people in Michael Jackson’s life.
This is how Hotnuts should be every month. Almost everyone was dolled up and ready to party.
Thank you for making Halloween the most fun.
Mary Messhausen’s sister, Vic, dressed up as Mary Messhausen and introduced her granny sibling, Beulah. It was quiet a scandal at Hotnuts actually, because Vic used the word “blowjob” on stage. We were in shock. Then it was the debut performance of Beulah Messhausen. And who doesn’t want to see a hot, big granny strip?
Next up were Margot & Margot in a total twincest number that had all the right ingredients.
So many pictures after the jump, gazillions more on flickr.
Up next it’s blockbuster time: Jurassic Park 4 Hotnuts on November 27.
It’s been three years since our last Hallonuts Hotween. More then enough time to bring back the scariest of all Hotnuts: We will ram the Beaver with baby pumpkins & toddler ghosts. Come early to avoid lineup!

OMG so OOC. That was so much fun. Thank you for making Pridetoberfest all about Hosen- and Dirndl-SPASS. Only abroad can this German girl handle so much gay Germanness.
Tante Karen started the evening by djing her favourite deutsche Sänger: Heino. What a treat that was for all of us! And the highlights just kept on rolling out of the barrel: Polka Queen Maija worked the accordion with a traditional Scorpions song, we had a Chug-A-Lug and a corndog eating contest. And not to forget, a super lustige sausage strut around the Beaver Stube.
Pridetoberfest is what we want every month. Can’t wait for next year.
(On a side note, I have sold this website to facebook for $1. The advantage is that you can leave comments with your facebook login. Just hit the “facebook connect” button at the end of this post and comment along. Thanks, proddy)
The Rei Kawakubo chapter is one of the best in John Waters’ book Role Models (published in May). These few black and white pages have caused considerable damage over hurrr. I mean, not that I didn’t crave Comme des Garçons before, but now, the flood gates of hell (aka my purse) are wide open. I simply can not resist a CdG item any more (just spare me the CdG Play line).
Ok, here is one of the crucial paragraphs. And what I believe is also very important: You can never start too early. Gobble up some torn & combusted CdG BEFORE you hit the big 4-ohhh:
You don’t need fashion designers when you are young (…). But past the age of 40, you need all the help you can get. Now is the time for designers, and believe me, Rei Kawakubo has made it possible for older people to be as fashion daring as the young. “Too rich, too nuts?” Yesiree, these are Rei’s customers, and we are proud to be her cult members on “Planet Rei”. Rei Kawakubo was “the first to make polyester cost more than silk,” the model Linda Evangelista told me when I met her at a film festival in France. Rei is not a fashion designer; she is a magician.
Let’s roll out the barrel! Your two favourite parties of the year like a double dildo, broken in half and shoved into one gay hole. Eat your bretzel under the gay rainbow.
It’s all about Gemütlichkeit.
Enjoy a chicken dance with your friends at the Beaver Stube.

Unbelievable. This website is turning 7 today. I thought that is a good occasion to introduce some fanciness to produzentin.com! I know, some pages and layouts are still broken, so please bear with me.
I have imported all my ancient tweets and in the future all new tweets will be featured here, too. The twitter updates have this cute little red star in front of them.

Enjoy the new look & sliding pictures on the front page. xoxo proddy
This was an Euro quicky. I got back from Rotterdam last night and still feel a little bit dizzy. Cosima von Bonin had an opening at Witte de With with the enormous title “Cosima von Bonin’s Far Niente for Witte de With’s Sloth Section, Loop # 01 of the Lazy Susan Series, a Rotating Exhibition 2010 – 2011″.
I don’t know what it was, but I was tumbling through the exhibition all night. Maybe it’s because I watched a bit of Play Time by Tati, which was screened in one of the rooms.
Anyways, at the end of the night, I was handing out the popular “You are Auf’d” postcards to get people to leave the show.
Clam hat by Cosima von Bonin, blouse by Mary Messhausen, skirt by Comme des Garçons.
Thank you Bitz, Conny, Kyle & Toffi.
Last week I saw the dreamy and beautiful movie Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. The film screened in Toronto for a week and before that as part of TIFF, for which the director Apichatpong Weerasethakul was in town. A Q&A session was part of the film festivals program. During the talk Apichatpong discussed “Utopia”, a project that he would love to make. Let’s hope he gets funding for it, I really want to see this:
“I’m really a big fan of Hollywood films. Especially disaster films.”
To that end, he’d love to make a sci-fi disaster film, set in Canada, that would feature the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek and also numerous female characters from sci-fi, including Star Trek’s Uhuru and Jane Fonda’s title femme from Barbarella.
“We plan to make a movie, but we cannot raise enough funds and there has to be the Starship Enterprise in the middle of a snowstorm erupting. It’s like a survey of these women going to this landscape and there are periodic snowstorms and monsters that are the creation of these people. It’s very sad, but it’s very funny at the same time. It would be a really big budget for me.”
“Uhuru” and “title femme”?! What was the writer of the Toronto Star article above thinking? How can you not get that right? He must have been on straight crack or something.
JB: Can you reveal some details about Utopia, which I believe is your “dream project”?
AW: It’s a science fiction film. I started working on it many years ago, after Tropical Malady. It’s a big movie and it’s based on my experiences of studying in the United States. I want to have the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek in the department store Macys, but broken down, and have the store surrounded by a snow-covered landscape. I want to work with the original science fiction actors, who are now in their 50s or 60s, and have them play scientists in this landscape who discover this broken-down Enterprise ship. There is a parallel narrative about a monster that is the product of these humans. The whole movie is about my memories of the science fiction movies that I grew up with.
Synopsis: In the lost world, a pre-historic man is freed in a snow-covered landscape. Everything is white and new to him. He tries to survive in a jungle where there are periodic snowstorms. Followed by a group of fashionable old American ladies, he faces off against a terrorizing monster that hides in the jungle. He discovers a cave where he shields himself from the outside world and starts to hibernate. Through the course of his sleeping, the white and snow- covered world has turned into a lush tropical forest. He emerges from the cave and explores the new green territory in wonderment. The moist landscape is now full of miraculous fauna, flora… and elements of a fabulous adventure!
Director’s Statement: It’s a bedtime story and it’s gentle.
I imagine the coexistence of the two worlds. In this tale, both of them seem real on the surface. But when paired together, because of their differences, they become each other’s dreams. These dreams are intertwined without a sense of time. It is the future of an ancient time, and an ancient time of the future. It’s a celebration of America and of “America.” Here, life is tender and savage – civilized.
A couple of weeks ago, when saw one of Aaron-Carl’s updates about his upcoming European tour, I was very happy for him. Also, a little bit sad, because I would love to have been at Panoramabar when he would have djed there.
Then, just days before he was supposed to leave for the airport, he had to go to the hospital. He had to cancel his tour. It all sounded very tragic. So many of his friends and fans must have checked his updates. So many people send their love to Aaron-Carl. When he was diagnosed with cancer last week, it seemed like he would take the fight and be strong.
Then, this morning, I read the news that Aaron-Carl had died.
This is so sudden and I’m still in shock.
Aaron-Carl, we miss you so much. Sending all the love.
I must have heard Aaron-Carl for the first time, before I even started this blog. So maybe like in 2002 or 2003. I remember it very well. I was at Pro Vinyl, a record store in Frankfurt. I found the 12″ of Homoerotic. It has that spoken intro “Ladies and Gentlemen, the orgasm starts now.” I was hooked instantly. The 4 to the floor house beats with the male gay diva vocals were just up my alley. I mean, how could you resist lines like “Homo – Erotic, so much better than masturbation”.
Shortly after, I ordered his album “Uncloseted” online. When the CD finally arrived in the mail, I was blown away. This was not only house, it spanned genres of R&B, funk, ghettotech and techno. On top of that are the fun bitchy but heartfelt lyrics and his incredible voice. I listened to the album on heavy rotation. I played “I’m not Free” at all the parties I was djing at the time. For me, the highlights on the album are still “Coming Out Story (b.i.t.c.h.)” and “Ex-Boyfriend (Revenge Is Sweet)” with a classic diva chorus “Don’t you know my name???? AARON-CARL!”. I was in love.
Then, in 2005, with my friends Viola and Georg, we invited Aaron-Carl and Pirahnahead to dj at two parties in Cologne and Frankfurt. We were all so excited when we finally met each other at the airport. As we were walking to the parking garage, Aaron-Carl and I held hands out of excitement, joking about it at the same time. We hopped on the train to Cologne and took pictures in front of the Cologne Cathedral the day before the party.
But just hours after our Detroit friends arrived, Aaron-Carl got a phone call from his sister that his mother had died. This was so sudden and sad. He wrote this note in the evening. Of course, he had to return to Detroit the next morning.
The parties were happening, but all of us were sad and emotional. We were so glad that Piranahead was spinning both evenings, getting us through with heartfelt and also uplifting music.
In February 2006, after we had moved to Toronto, we took a road trip to Detroit and spend some time with Pirahnahead, Aaron-Carl, his partner Mel and his kids. When we visited AC at home, he showed us his home studio and arcade game collection in the basement. He was very proud of a “Ms. Pac Man” machine that he had just gotten recently. To Aaron-Carl, “Ms. Pac-Man is the ultimate diva”. We were screaming with laughter.
Back upstairs, we were just sitting on the couch, Aaron-Carl called one of his sons: “Stefan, Stefan, get over huuuuurrrr.” It was so cute and funny, the gay diva summoning his kid. This best pronunciation of “here” has stayed with me. I still love to use it.
Last night at Hotnuts, Gentleman Reg performed in drag for the first time ever. Shortly after midnight, Gentlelady Reg took the stage with an a cappella rendition of “Like Someone in Love” (originally recorded in the 40s and later included on Bjork’s Debut). Her second song was a stunning cover of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” and with that, she broke our hearts. So good. Peg Zilla (Peg’s new name, more on that in an upcoming Hotnuts theme) shot a video of the Lady’s performance, check it out but don’t mind Peg Zilla’s bat-like screaming.
Mary’s outfit was inspired by Mummers, a tradition of her peoples from Newfoundland. My hat was inspired by the bricks my yoga teacher throws at my head every time I start talking to hot boys in yoga class. As you can see, we really tried hard with the sensitivity training theme.
Thanks so much for coming out and the fun times on the dance floor.
Next Hotnuts: October 30th – Hallonuts Hotween for the scariest Saturday of the year.
Woods is still a favourite song of mine and I was very happy when my dj sister Das Hussy remixed the song. With the forthcoming release of the new Kanye album and Bon Iver being featured on it, we can only hope that Justin Vernon doesn’t become the next Chris Martin. Anyways, below is das hussy remix of Woods and the Tomas Barfood remix of Re: Stacks. Bon Iver on the dance floor. DL that.
I was happy when the ladies working at the museum told us the story of how Liberace saved Swarovski: When he called to order crystals, Liberace discovered Swarovski were on the brink of bankruptcy. He quickly upped his order to purchase their entire stock and therefore put them back into business. Gay Crystals Forever!
Liberace was the highest paid entertainer and pianist during the 1950s to 1970s; never publicly acknowledging his homosexuality. Scott Thorson, who was his partner for 5 years, sued Liberace for palimony in 1982 and would later publish “Behind The Candelabra – My Life with Liberace“. In a candid interview with Larry King from August 2002, the former bodyguard and limo-driver talks about their relationship:
Scott Thorson: “Oh, I guess he was probably in his 30s, Larry. He says [to the plastic surgeon], “I want you to create Scott to look like me when he was younger; so he looks like my son.” He wanted me as his son. But at the same time, he wanted me as his lover.”
Q: Is the Liberace project going forward with Michael Douglas?
Matt Damon: Well, yeah, it is. We’re really excited about it. He’s obviously going through his health issues, but from what I understand, it’s not going to be a problem. The numbers are very much on his side and he’s a healthy guy, so we”™re all just hoping that everything goes well. We’re hoping to be right on track for shooting next summer. But obviously, we’re willing to wait for our star as long as we have to.
SO, we can only hope this film gets made. Matt Damon ending up looking like Michael Douglas’ son lover friend sister wife?! YES!!! Bring on the BIZARRO GAY GAYNESS.
Cody Critcheloe was in town for the Toronto premiere of the SSION movie BOY and the afterparty at Hotnuts. So, we kicked off the evening with the screening at Mercer Union. It was the best way to slip into the night – Kansas City style. One of the hightlights of BOY is of course the clip for Clown.
It was kind of no surprise that when we arrived at The Beaver, we (as in I) were already a little effed. When I got reminded that August 29 is Michael Jackson’s birthday, I couldn’t help but play some of his hits early on. Thanks Duncan for requesting Earth Song. Always a crowd pleaser.
Cody had the best Hotnuts stage entry: He fell of the stairs. It was just one of those nights and so much fun. Thanks everybody for coming out.
Below is also a short clip of Cody performing a cover of Grace Jones’ Nightclubbing. Watch out for a cameo by Mary Messhausen.
Just like your favourite shows on TV, we’re back. Welcome to the new season of Hotnuts. We’re starting with a very special guest performer & DJ. So excited!

MEMPHIS was a Milan-based collective of young furniture and product designers led by the veteran Ettore Sottsass. After its 1981 debut, Memphis dominated the early 1980s design scene with its post-modernist style. (via designmuseum)
I can’t hold back on my designer vase fetish, so here we go: ‘Euphrates’ and ‘Nilo’ vases by Ettore Sottsass in 1983. They are part of the three ‘rivers’ vases designed for Memphis (‘Tigris’ is the third, but I really only need these two.)
‘Euphrates’ looks a bit like stacked dishes and ‘Nilo’, well, the pink ball in the middle did me in. Such good objets. All things considered, I need some Memphis Milano at my place, I wouldn’t limit myself to porcelain. I know, I know, you got to be careful with the 80ties look, but if you sprinkle one or two pieces around your apartment or house it’s a stone winner (as Mariah would say).
For a Memphis/Milano overkill, have a look at this flickr stream. Stunning.
And here is a shopping link to lots of MM items still in production.
The next one is the carrot vase designed by Nathalie du Pasquier for Memphis Milano in 1984. Just want to put some carrots in thurr.
Went to a store where they carry the egg vases today. Turned out they did not have the egg vase I wanted, so it had to be ordered. But they gave me the moooi catalogue. Here is one page of it. I have to bring this look back.
I’m becoming such a domestic queen. For days now I have done research on vases. Once I start, I can’t stop. I seem to find more and more beautiful vases. And more and more, they are becoming objets (pronounced super French & gay) to me.
Caution: I rarely get a sticker shock but please look closely before you send me one of those vases as a prezzie. Don’t say I haven’t warned you.
All three vases below are designed by Marcel Wanders for Moooi. He’s also art director and co-founder of the company. Mr. Wanders was one of the first designers for droog.
Ok, this one is a no brainer. Bunched up eggs as a vase. So good. Apparently, the design process involved stuffing latex rubber condoms with hard-boiled eggs to come up with the shapes. A little nasty stuffing always sounds good to me.
There are 3 sizes available, small, medium, large. I like the medium best, it’s the one where the eggs reach up to the top. I have already ordered mine. Seriously.
The egg vases also come in limited editions in chrome or gold. However, I love the white ones.
The two vases above are from the Marcel Wanders Delft Blue collection. These two objets are my favourites, but you can surprise me with any MW Delft Blue item. Here, the golden eggs are wonderful. And the blue blobs on the last vase? Stunning. Who needs to put flowers in the vase anyways?
The two vases are produced and decorated at Royal Delft, a Dutch company dating back to 1653 and the original producers of the exquisite Delft Blue ceramics. The vases are reinterpreting and revitalizing Delft Blue and the old Dutch craft using new ideas for shapes and decoration.
Saturday a week ago, I was part of the opening of Cosima von Bonin’s exhibition “The Fatigue Empire”. I had the honour of kicking people out of the Kunsthaus Bregenz. Sounds like the perfect job for me, right? My friend Doc Nancy was also there and drove the car through the 2nd floor of the Kunsthaus. Drink’n'Drive has never been more fun.
I started throwing people out on the 3rd floor by presenting “You Are Auf’d” postcards, which didn’t go down so well. Most people just wanted to stay. So, I said: “All cute people have to leave and you are very cute. Just look around, who’s left?!”.
And down the stairs they went.
Now you can call it performance. But when is a drag queen not performing? HELLO?!
Yesterday, I heard How Long by Lipps Inc. for the first time. Immediately, I felt like a little schoolgirl but acted all super butch. No one around me noticed what was going on deep inside of moi. (Not that this is a change from any other day.)
Anyways, I got my disco lesson.
If you don’t know what I’m about, just listen to Justus Köhncke’s club hit from 2004, Timecode, which I now love even more.
There’s no Hotnuts in July. We need a short summer break. Sorry. BUT – we’re coming back with a megabang at the end of August. Cody Critcheloe of SSION (prəˈnounst ‘shun’) is going to be in town for the Toronto premiere of his movie BOY. The screening is going to be at Mercer Union on Saturday, August 28.
And afterwards, join us for Hotnuts. Or will it be Boynuts? I dunno. Cody will be performing and shake some iPods. And I heard, KevinHBomb might bring some house music?! YAY!
Clown, one of my favourite songs from the SSION album, got a music video this year. You have probably seen this already, if not, get on it… Kansas City, here we go.
It’s best to pronounce it like really gay. Fatty gay.
Can you use it in a sentence? “I’m so fatty gay.”
Cosima von Bonin has a big opening at Kunsthaus Bregenz on Saturday, July 17. I’m very honoured and excited to be part of the night. Right after the opening, there is a party on a boat, where Viola Klein and myself will be djing for all friends, party people and the sea urchins in Lake Constance. If you want to be local, just call it Bodensee. Basically, it’s like Lake Ontario but for Germany and Austria.
What is she going to wear to such an event, you might ask yourself?
Glad you asked. I’m going to wear a dress by Mary Messhausen (of course!), but from her Mary’o'nette collection. The dress features a digital silk print by the one and only Pandy Ramada. I’m so spoiled already. And this is not a hint.
Can’t wait for The Fatigue Empire.

In the wake of the police going crazy all over town because of the G20 summit, it felt so right that Mikiki took the performance to the street and the back alley behind The Beaver. This is the last Hotnuts before the summer break.
We’ll be back at the end of August.
For the second time, I lost my Viktor & Rolf Shu Umera lashes this weekend in a drunk’n'drag accident. Today looked into buying them for a third time. Hoping it is going to be a charm.
That’s when I saw these babies: “inspired by architectural approach of future fashion, these elegant, silver coated lashes softly sparkle with moon shape sequins.”
And the shopping list is longer again.
Now, I need to work on making it shorter. WORK!
I have been listening to the Animal Collective remix of Welt am Draht quite a lot recently and it made me think of the Fassbinder movie of the same name. Made for TV in 1973 World On A Wire was rarely shown on television or at the movies. I remember watching it a few years back on a German Regionalprogramm. I really liked it, but it was very slow and made me a bit sleepy, which is not a bad thing. Loved the camera by Ballhaus, of course, including the mirrors placed in the sets = illusions? = divided nature? of the actors.
I found this Fassbinder quote about the movie at the MoMa site:
“very beautiful story that depicts a world where one is able to make projections of people using a computer. And, of course, this leads to the uncertainty of whether someone himself is a projection, since in the virtual world projections resemble reality. Perhaps another, larger world has made us as a virtual one? In this sense it deals with the old philosophical model, which here takes on a certain horror.”
It seems that every article on Welt am Draht has to mention the movies Matrix, eXistenZ and most recent ones also Avatar. So, there you go, I mentioned them.
A completely restored version was shown at the Berlinale earlier this year. A DVD has been released in February including English subtitles.

Wow. That was a great 4 year anniversary party. Thanks for a fun filled night. Jamaica set the stage on fire. Her dj companion, DJ No Problem, provided distorted dance hall beats to “Jump Up And Wave”. The energy levels were through the roof! And Jamaica is one bendy queen.
Before and after Jamaica’s performance, DJ Mi-Nuh Care (@JeremyLaing) played the finest reggae and dance hall songs. One of the hits of the night was “Twice My Age“, with the wonderful lyrics: “I’m in love with a man nearly twice my age.” I also loved that Mi-Nuh Care played the annoying but fun “Rich Girl”. When I started djing, the dance floor was already cooking with hot riddims. It was all 4 to the floor from then on. I was so happy to finally play the Riva Starr remix of Royal T. And Circles.
Of course, Mary was up to no good with dem boyz & queens and caught a major shlong. So kai kai.
Peg, the drag baby (some say from hell), was in the kitchen all afternoon and prepared some yummy cookies for us. El Bear Ho couldn’t stop eating them and was kind of baked the minute we arrived at The Beaver. We had to pump one liter of Coke down her throat to bring her back to party.
Mary Messhausen and my make-up by Margot. Our dresses by Mary.
NSFW after the jump. Tons more on flickr.
This is our 4 year anniversary party. It’s official, we’re the granny night at The Beaver.
Come early to avoid line uppppppp.
It’s for real. This time we’re having dance hall queen Jamaica Lioness-Fischer as the performeress. She told us she eats herbs for breakfast. And that’s why Jamaica couldn’t be more appropriate for Hotbox Hotnuts. YAY!

We met Will 4 years ago, shortly after we moved to Toronto. Will and Lynn had just taken over The Beaver. It was the first party there, for his 31st birthday in February 2006. I remember talking to Will while he was djing. He played a Mylo Club Mix of a cover version of Sweet Child Of Mine. I had not heard the song before, asking him what it was.
A few weeks later, Andrew Harwood and myself would ask Will if we could have a Saturday night at The Beaver. And so, in May 2006, we started Hotnuts. Will was such a big part of it. From the beginning he dressed up with us, djed and got the night going.
For the first year or so, we would do silk screened posters and flyers. And when I say “we”, it was Will doing most of the work. A lot of times, we wanted to meet at 8pm to work on the posters. In the end, we met at midnight or 1am. Will was always so busy, doing 5 projects at the same time. So much energy. He didn’t mind doing the silk screening at night. So, we would meet at his studio, listening to disco and house, drinking coke, eating double doubles. And I was just trying to not get to messy from the silk screening.
In May 2009, Will djed at Hotnuts for the last time. He had sewn his outfit out of Mc Donald’s fabric and called the headpiece “tumor balls”.
On May 21, 2010 Will Munro passed away after a two year battle with a brain tumor. Toronto lost one of it’s most prolific artists, promoters, DJ’s, musicians, community activists.
We love and miss him so much.
Some pictures are below. Most of them are from Hotnuts. I have uploaded much more to flickr. Will’s make up by Margot Keith. (You can download the original sized photos on flickr by clicking on the “All sizes” link on top of the pictures.)
On Saturday, Mary Messhausen and myself saw Pearls Over Shanghai, the reproduction of the musical by The Cockettes. The updated version is brought back to the stage 40 years after its debut by The Thrillpeddlers in collaboration with some of the original Cockettes members.
It was great to see original composer Richard “œScrumbly” Koldewyn on the piano and original Cockette Rumi Missabu reprising his role as the evil Madame Gin Sling (photo below). It is such a fun and exciting show, including an opium induced scene played in the dark. Our favourite song is “Apples and Won Ton” sung by Lili Frustrata.
Pearls Over Shanghai is playing in San Francisco until August 1st.
The Thrillpeddlers are currently also playing Hot Greeks, which was the only other scripted book musical by The Cockettes. Now I wish I had seen this one too.
Recently, I started asking friends at parties what their all time favourite song is. Usually, people enter in a kind of blank stare, hypnotized mode, thinking hard & going back in time through a wormhole. Before I get to bored, waiting for um-teen minutes for an answer, I blare out: “Mine is Burn by Usher.” Most of the time, this is greeted with laughter, disbelief and mockery. I don’t care, ’cause the haters can’t take Burn away from me.
Also, a lot of people don’t seem to remember that I’m in the video. It was a very exciting time in my life when Usher’s manager called and said: “Ush wants and needs you in his next clip.” I just screamed into the phone: “Where is my flight ticket?” and hung up. Next thing you know, I was in L.A. shooting a video with Usher under burning palm trees. My love was burning up for him. SO HOT.
Of course, I’m totally into lyrics of the song. At the beginning, Usher is so sure that the relationship is over. Only when he calls his new “girlfriends” by the ex’s name, he realizes the big mistake. But Usher knows, the boss lady ain’t coming back. So he has to: LET IT BURN.
Ok, I’m not really in this frame, but we did a photo shoot for the big picture on the wall.
This scene features a one of a kind Usher jacket with a print of me in Japanese drag on the back. So cute.
Another fun Burn moment. I mean does he even recognize I’m still thurr for him? As you can see, I was trying my hardest to get noticed.
I ruined a couple of shots for this scene on purpose. I wanted to show my pretty make up and always turned around to blink my lashes. This would have been so good. Anyways, it was lots of fun to stop Ushy in the middle of the road. Total Boss Lady style.
I’ve been so behind with the dj charts. And now, this is what you get, 25 plus songs. Have some patience and work through the list, the diamonds & pearls are not only at the top.
Crookers feat. Roisin Murphy – Royal T – Southern Fried
I don’t really know if this is the #1 but it sure is a crazy energy song with super highs and mellow parts. So during the breaks you can come up with an interpretive dance interlude. I was lucky enough to have an early copy and so it was Royal T Nuts for a few months. Still waiting for the Riva Starr Vocal mix to come out, the dub is a bit to dull for me.
Remerc – Baptista – Greelpound
Cologne in the house. I’m always falling for chopped up vocals or weird vocal sounds.
Missing Linkx – Who To Call – Philpot Records
Pushy piano geklimper house. Feeling the vocal breaks.
David Keno – Upside Down – Snatch
You know who sang the original. This is a dubby house version. And there even is a silly video for it. First release on Riva Stars’ label.
The Martinez Brothers – Don’t No Yet EP – Objektivity
The young boys have taken over & have created a monster EP. All three tracks are hits.
Tracey Thorn – Why Does The Wind Blow (Ewan Pearson Radio Edit) – Strange Feeling
This song is from her upcoming album which should have the full version. “Love And Its Opposite” will probably be more acoustic from what I heard, so I’m happy we get some dancey stuff as well.
Willie Graff & Tuccillo – Give You Up (Chez Damier’s A Little More Interpretation) – Freerange
The first time I heard this one, I had the loopy filtered synths in my head for the whole day. It’s a 9 minute trippy house journey.
Erykah Badu – Window Seat (Dj Aakmael dubb mixx)
Unofficial deep house remix of Erykah’s lead single. An early or very late, warm song to play.
Argy & The Martinez Brothers – Debbie Downer
So gut mit MJ Sample.
Tensnake – Coma Cat – Permanent Vacation
Hier laeuten die Glocken. Peg AssIs turned me onto this one and now I have to play it every time she’s thurrr, just to shut her up and get her dancing.
Henrik Schwarz And Kuniyuki – Once Again (Kuniyuki Version) – Mule Musiq
What was missing from the charts? Jazzy piano. Here we go.
Roisin Murphy – Momma’s Place (The C90s Remix)
I believe this remix was commissioned by Ms Murphy but somehow it didn’t get released on the single. Such a pity, because it is the best mix.
Romanthony – Girls Like Girls (Zanzibar Vocal) – Blackmale
The bf is scared his gf is on the dl. “I don’t wanna be the last to know, that my girl likes girls on the downlow.” So deep it hurts.
DJ PP – 100% Percusion - Soulman Music
It is what it is. As the title suggests.
Saturday night at Hotnuts Volcanic Asses. Fay Slift performed “It’s Oh So Quiet” and “Telephone” and shut air traffic down. There was so much enery on stage that a swan fell around Fay’s neck. So cute.
I wish I had a picture of Mary deep tonguing one of the birthday boys. What a present!
And even Ms. Guðmundsdóttir came by to rim the volcanic asses. Just have a look…
If you follow Hotnuts on facebook, you saw that we had a different theme planned for Saturday. Sadly, dance hall queen Jamaica can’t perform this month. So, we had to change the theme and music”¦ We will bring Jamaica to Hotnuts as soon as possible. This Saturday, you can witness the amazing Fay Slift going down on us like a volcano.
Yes, we’re having Hotnuts Volcanic Asses.
Come and erupt all over us. Cover us in assh.

Just last week, we had our nook bed couch delivered from Northern Ontario. We were so amazed by what people can do up north. Actually, we had spoken to our friend Peg AssIs about the idea of this wonderful piece of furniture. She took a few pictures of the empty nook, click, click, click. She went away for a couple of weeks and when she finally returned to Toronto, she had this wonderful couch bed frame with her. It is a vinyl print on top of plywood. No screws or glue were used. And there is a secret door.
After we moved to our new place in December, it took us some time to get our shet together. Now, finally, the happy face is up on the wall. I wanted to share this cute set up with you. So, here are three of the wonderful things in our upstairs sugar shack:
1) The Stone
I bought this really heavy styrofoam stone when the Toronto Opera had an archive sale. #sonice
2) The Wallfurniture
You better not call it wall paper! I recently got into trouble when the word slipped out of my mouth accidentally. It’s wallfurniture, get it?
Wallfurniture by Dorkenwald-Spitzer , get it from their online store
3) The Happy Face
It’s always good to have smiley face looking at you. In the morning, the afternoon, the evening. Keeps the spirits up. Love it. The happy face can also be seen in Mount Shasta, a film by Oliver Husain.
Crystal Visions took the Hotnuts stage by storm. She performed Dreams, Landslide and Gold Dust Woman for the full Stevie Nicks realness. The Beaver was filled with lace and tambourines. Update:Watch the complete performance
Mary Messhausen created the stunning dresses for huurself and me. I’m not sure if there ever was a Hotnuts when we both wore black?! But you can’t go wrong when you have hot lace fringes and gold polka dots.
Anyways, it was a great night, thank you all for making it happen. xo.
Yes, we’re having a Stevie Nicks themed nuts. I might play this Deep Dish remix of Dreams all night. And who doesn’t want to be like Stevie in the Scarlett video version of Stand Back. This clip didn’t get released back then, because Ms Nicks thought she looked to fat in it. Climbing up the stairs never looked so good.
On Saturday, El Bear Ho, Mary Messhausen and myself took part in a photo shoot for Canadian Vogue. We had our first splash at 4pm, to get in the mood for all the flashes. It was so much fun! We fell in love with the photographer Miguel and especially the very cute assistant, Housten (not sure if he told us his real name, though).
Anyways, after the shoot, we were in such a good mood that we headed to one of our favourite bars, The Henhouse. We arrived there at 8pm, the first patrons of the night. Getting the party started so early made us scream “Last Call” ever half an hour.
Basically, I spent my whole day discovering their pages (pun intended). They first feature that caught my attention, was Multitasking. So many arms, so much to do. Check out the pictures and multiply your arms. Then, I found the CGI fashion story by Ryan Trecartin.
I got more and more disoriented, lost in the DIS pages.
Welcome to the interwebz, Bernhard Willhelm. After years without having a designated website, Bernhard Willhelm is finally on it. His site is quite bare bones, however this morning, there was a live stream of BW Womens Fall/Winter 2010/11 fashion show.
Skinny Little Bitch, the new single? by Hole, is available for free if you hand over your email at nobodysdaughter.com. Hurry up, this is for today only.
Of course, I’m totally loving the aggro rock song. Hello, so into rock now. Really. Who can resist Courtney Love? Album is out April 26 / 27.
The Thigh Master Slaves took the stage shortly after. It was a perfect Hotnuts performance: big balls, blood and dancing. Everybody in the audience wanted a ballsexamination after.
The Tanuki is a real but also mythical & magical animal native to Japan. It is widely depicted with balls (aka the blob) hanging to the floor representing luck with money. We felt it’s the perfect Hotnuts mascot & so here we go with TanukiNuts.
Get your blob did and check out some traditional drawing below.

“London shoe designer Tracey Neuls and Danish artist Nina Saunders have collaborated to create an installation using fabrics by British textile brand Sanderson at Neuls”™ London shop. Called Most Curious, the installation features a sculpture by Saunders with upholstery bursting out of a chair frame and spilling onto the floor.”
Ok, totally love the spill over chair. And I say that as a total chair person. More on that later. Especially, the combination of the fabric & the spill work so well. I could spill a couple of Hendrick’s Gin & Tonics (aber gut abgespirtzt) on that one. SO NICE.
Two albums have just gotten a release date and I can’t wait to listen more rock and acoustic indie sounds? Seriously.
1) Hole – Nobody’s Daughter – April 17
Ok, this one had release dates before and in the meantime Courtney Love turned it into a Hole record. The album was produced by Linda Perry, Billy Corgan, and Michael Beinhorn, who helmed Hole’s previous album, 1998′s Celebrity Skin (source). Last week, Hole performed the new song Samantha on a late night UK TV show.
2) Tracey Thorn – Love and Its Opposite – May 18
Although produced by Ewan Pearson, judging from the album opener, this sounds more like an acoustic affair. You can download, Oh, the Divorces!, of the former Everything But The Girl leadsinger from pitchfork. I’m so into the album cover. And I know a few people who might get a tingeling sensation downstairs, when they hear, that Love And Its Opposite features a collaboration with Jens Lekman.
Here are my dj charts that I should have posted half a year (or something) ago. Since my last countdown was posted in April, this is almost like a best of 2009. So late. So sorry. But so good.
More recent charts are just around the corner. I promise.
Jerome Sydenham – Ecoute (Ecoute!) – UK Promotions
Has some “Sylvester – Dance (Disco Heat)” (Martha Wash and Izora Armstead on vocals) in the mix and turns it into a modern disco house track. Love it.
Derrick Carter – A Hope (Over U) (D’s Meeting House Dub) – Classic
Super house classic from the Mo Pschidt Ep, has the chipmunk Friends (The 1:00 Club) on the flipside. I got into it again last year and have been spinning it quite a bit. Both sides.
Omar-S – Lift Him Up feat. Don Q and Still Serious Nic – FXHE
Lift Him Up is a raw gospel deep house monster featuring Omar-S’s brother on vocals. Still Serious Nic is seriously rough.
Lady Gaga – Bad Romance (Hercules & Love Affair Mix) – Interscope
You can’t escape Gaga after this nu disco Hercules remix. Best mix of her songs so far. There is also a dub version if you can’t stand the vocals.
Aaron-Carl – I Refuse (Quentin Harris Remix) – Wall Shaker Music
Love the Prince samples in this one. And combined with AC’s vocals, ahhhh, unbeatable.
That’s not all. Here’s some Michael Jackson. I love to play these mixes:
Michael Jackson – Remember The Time (Silky Soul 12” Mix) – Sony
One of my (if not the) favourite MJ remixes. Steve Silk Hurley turned Remember The Time into a house classic. Sorry, couldn’t find a good link for the 12″ version.
Michael Jackson – Rock With You (Frankie Knuckles Favourite Club Mix) – Sony
This one is so smooth. A good start into the night. I believe it was first released as the B-Side to “You Are Not Alone” in 1995.
Argy & The Martinez Brothers – Debbie Downer – Objektivity
This came out before Michael’s death. It has a sample (“don’t you dare”) that definitely sounds like MJ, but I can’t make out the song it’s from. Any ideas?
Last night was my second Mariah concert ever. It was better than the first one almost 4 years ago. That probably also had to do with the fact that we were sitting even closer to the stage. From 8th row in 2006 to 1st row in 2010. I guess the next time, I will be on her lap.
Right at the beginning, MC mentioned that she hat a little cold, but that wouldn’t stop her. During the whole show she was very funny and really seemed to enjoy herself and the audience. My favourite songs this time: My All, We Belong Together and Always Be My Baby. Classic. I’m still all smiles and can’t really believe it. MIMI!!!!!!!!!!
100%, a new song that just got released on iTunes US and Canada yesterday, was performed in Toronto for the first time. The tune was written for the Precious soundtrack and it now seems like it is going to appear on Mariah’s remix / duets album “Angels Advocate” that is going to be released on March 30. The performance of 100% was filmed for the possible inclusion in the music video. I can’t wait to see it.
Here is a clip of 100% with lots of talky talky by Mariah. She had to get re-wired or something. The song starts about 2 minutes in.
Oh and at the bottom of each post, “Tweet This” and “Facebook” links are finally available for your convenience. Now you can easily share all the produzentin shet. Thanks.
Lady Miss Kier is back singing a cover version of the anti war song Bullet Proof. She has been singing this one for a few years now, so it’s great that it finally gets a proper release on DFA records. Toffi and I saw her performing it live in Montreal last decade.
The Ray Mang feat. Lady Miss Kier song keeps the p-funky style of George Clinton’s original from his 1985 album, “Some Of My Best Jokes are Friends“, and pumps it up for 2010.
And while we wait for the new Mariah video (please scroll down), why not watch Jessica 6 – Fun Girl. J6 consists of Morgan Wiley, Andrew Raposo and Nomi Ruiz, who could also be heard on the Hercules & Love Affair single, You Belong. If you’ve ever seen H&LA live, you know what a great stage presence Nomi has.
The most fun video from Mariah’s Memoirs project had its premiere today. Dolls & ponytails are always good. And I love that they included the marching band reprise at the end. MC’s husband makes a cameo too. If you must know, he would not have to get up out my face.
Thanks for partying with us at Hotnuts Get Your Apps Together. The Beaver was rammed. The House of Monroe shook the dance floor with every drip and drop. Again, they brought such a powerful performance, the audience was screaming.
Mary Messhausen had a new friend: the Mary O’Nette.
Mysteriously, they wore the same outfit.
Dance floor killer of the night: Crookers feat. Roisin Murphy – Royal T.
I had to play it twice in a row.
When Mary was pregnant a few months ago, no one, including Mary, heard anything about it again. But then she sneezed and BOOM, there was her drag daughter: Peg.
Since DSquared is designing the clothes for their coming tour lead-singer Bill Kaulitz of Tokio Hotel had the honor to open their menswear-show in Milan. (Source)
I never thought I would mention this brand on produzentin.com but here we go. Has this blog jumped the shark or isn’t this a great combination? IS IT?! Tokio Hotel & this Canadian brand.
Mary, this is your fault, thank you very much.
Created in collaboration with perfumer Daniela Andrier, the unisex fragrance, called Untitled, will launch at Colette on January 25th and in March elsewhere.
The scent is described as “floral, woody, and very green” (including notes of fern) as well as “ambery and oriental.”
Of course, the bottle is dipped in white paint. Secretly, I was still hoping they would sell an empty bottle. Or a fluid without a scent (not to call it water). That would have been THE BEST.
p.s. perfumer Daniela Andrier is the nose behind YSL’s Rive Gauche, Gucci Rush for men, and several Prada fragrances.
When I started this blog, I first had the German domain www.dieproduzentin.de. Now another produzentin has taken over my old residence. And it sounds amazing. I wish I had written this blurb. She could work a little on her looks, though…
Die Produzentin produziert. Sie ist Herstellerin immaterieller Güter und teilt ihr weltliches Wissen mit Bewohnern des Weltnetz. www.dieproduzentin.de macht glücklich!
The producer produces. She is a producer of intangible assets and shares her worldly knowledge with residents of the world network. www.dieproduzentin.de makes you happy! (That’s how google tranzlates it.)
In this still from the trailer of Broken Embraces, the latest Almodovar movie, we can not see Penelope Cruz. We can not see LluÃs Homar. They are humping underneath the sheets. But in the blurry background, we can see one of my favourite table lamps.
The lamp is called Cesta and was designed in 1964 by Miguel Milá.
The lantern style lamp consists of a cherry wood structure and an opal ball diffuser. I guess it can help to transform any modern space into a Japanese palace of the Edo period. Or a set from an Almodovar movie.
The bladeless fan by Dyson is very popular with hands. They like to hover around the fan and sometimes poke the BIG hole. But no touchy, touchy. Just check the video below.
It’s called the Air Multiplier. Why didn’t I get one for Christmas? With multiplying my wonderful fresh air, I guess I could help saving the climate. Really, I would keep it running all day.
Last fall, Mama Murphy had performed the song live. Now, listen to the studio version of the new Roisin Murphy single, Momma’s Place (not sure how long the link will last). Update: The final version of the song is now posted on her facebook page.
The piano house track, including 4 remixes, will be released January 18 through AWAL. It also sounds like there is a sample of an 80′s synthpop track in there…
Ever since a friend of mine posted a make up tutorial video on my facebook I have been a little bit obsessed with the genre. Especially if there is a serious comedy delivery.
And the clips will help you to get lots of face paint on a.k.a. looking like a woochie. Which is always a good thing.
Yesterday, I found the great Avatar make up tutorial. The girl is hilarious. Love her usage of drums as the soundtrack. Already over 500,000 views:
The clip below started my obsession. I guess I have watched it 54 times already. Very inspiring. She lists all the products on the youtube page.
As I was slipping into 2010, I thought it was time for a new product placement on produzentin.com. And why not kick start the decade with one of my favourite cookies on a stick: Oreo Sippers. Peoples south of the border call them Oreo Fun Stix.
Can I propose a new name & tagline:
Oreo Suckle Sipper Fun Stix. They make you feel like a little piglet.
