29 September 2008 | Onyxnuts

Mama Messhausen packed The Onyx Hotel. The traditional Philippino love song followed by Proud Mary had the crowd joining in on the action & screaming for more. Das Hussy had some great records with her & googly eyes on her breasts that got flashed to a few lucky people (wish I had a picture).
It was a very memorable evening, thank you all for coming.

25 September 2008 | Meteorite vs. Violet

The milliner Stephen Jones has launched his first fragrance at Dover Street Market in London. The collaboration with Comme des Garcons will soon be available at CdG boutiques worldwide. The perfume is described as a “meteorite crashing into a violet” or “futuristic but rococo”. It includes notes of violet, violet leaf, ’synthesized cyber aldehyde’, clove, carnation, rose, jasmine, heliotrope, gaiac wood, magma, black cumin, vetiver and amber.

Sounds like a perfect CdG fragrance to me. Of course, I want it. Thanks.

20 September 2008 | 21 Nights

21 nights

When I attended a couple of Prince concerts last year, I was hoping for a live album. Especially of the aftershows that took place at a smaller venue at the O2 Arena in London. And in October, a little bit over a year later, this is what’s happening.

Prince and photographer Randee St. Nicolas are releasing 21 Nights, a book of photographs spanning his London residency, including poetry, lyrics and “Indigo Night,” a CD–available only with the book–capturing Prince’s live after-show sessions.

Update: Tracklist of the CD

17 September 2008 | Do You Believe In Life After Love?

Surprise: I’m a little bit in love with Kanye, again.

It's a Love Lockdown

Of course, it all started when he sang his new single, Love Lockdown at the MTV Awards. Then he posted the song on his blog, then yesterday, a new version. Update: Now on iTunes.

After listening to the song on repeat, I found the above picture of ‘Ye at New York fashion week on Laura’s blog. How could I have not fallen for a sad puppy?

I can feel something inside me say
I really don’t think you’re strong enough

One question remains: Is Kanye the new Cher?
At least, he has to be the new Queen of Auto-Tune. There is lots of hope that his new album, tentatively titled 808’s & Heartbreak (out December 16), has lots of filters on his singing voice. Rumor has it the raps are gone.

Where is the cute college bear?!

13 September 2008 | Arbeit Nervt

One of my favourite German bands, Deichkind is returning with a new album in October. The record and first single are called Arbeit Nervt (Work Sucks). DikeKid are hailing from Hamburg and started out as a Hip-Hop combo before venturing to their current, more electro based sound.

With their new single Deichkind are again on the border of hick-ness (Prolltum) and party alarm.

The video for Arbeit Nervt is by Alex and Liane, who worked with Bloc Party, The Ting Tings and also did the excellent Deichkind video for Ich betäube mich (I’m narcotizing myself)

Watch Arbeit Nervt and see how much fun beer cans provide.
The HQ clip is currently unavailable on AlexandLiane’s site.

05 September 2008 | Looking Shockingly Like Milk

Every gay blog on the planet has written about Milk. The new Gus van Sant biopic about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay city supervisor of San Francisco, and gay rights activist. Milk and Mayor George Moscone were shot to death by resigned city supervisor Dan White in 1978.

The movie opens later this year.
Sean Penn plays Harvey Milk.

SF Chronicle (March 2008): It’s a wrap - ‘Milk’ filming ends in S.F.

01 September 2008 | They Call Her G-G

And I’m not talking about Gossip Girl here. It’s the Governor General I’m interested in. It all comes down to this: Queen Elisabeth II. has a lot to do with reigning over 16 countries, so she needs a Governor General in Canada.

I’m obsessed with the role of the G-G for several reasons:

  • Most importantly: There is only one person above the G-G, the Queen
  • The G-G is addressed as His/Her Excellency
  • The G-G has his/her own flag and it is stunning. I would like to get a dress made out of a fabric with that cute little lion printed all over.

Maybe one day I can become a G-G, too. I’m an immigrant lady, so I have one of the prerequisites. However, the G-G gets appointed on advice of the Canadian Prime Minister. Mmmmh. There should be a way!
