30 June 2008 | New Bernhard

Bernhard Willhelm Men’s Spring Summer 2009 (via)
Diane Pernet has some pictures too.

It seems to me Bernhard’s back on track with the menswear. Liking the boy/girl look.

30 June 2008 | Candy Darling

Below are a few quotes from the book Candy Darling by Candy Darling, published 1992 through Hanuman. During the course of a day Candy committed her thoughts to a soft-covered notebook writing about things such as recipes, drafts of letters, makeup tips, addresses, etc. Then, there are pages of speculation; words meant to be used as a rebuke or compliment, dialogue to be stored away for future use - perhaps for a play she was writing, jokes:

All I could concentrate on for the rest of the morning was the grunting and groaning and the sounds ofthe bed creaking. Gil left around 9 a.m. I was still too stunned to sleep, being persecuted to capacity. As Mr. Right was going out of the door he saw that I was not asleep and said goodbye. His face seemed to be saying to me it’s really you I love mentally it was all you. But then I am not mentally well.

I know it hasn’t all been beer & pretzels for you either.

I see the day coming when the words femme and butch will be more commonly used. I mean to be used for heterosexuals not just for gay or bisexuals. Think of the intersting types.
Female-Heterosexual-type- Basic butch with femme overtones. the drag type
Raq. W. / J. Craw. / Jane Russell
Basic femme - Butch overtones Greta Garbo
Basic femme - femme overtones M.M. L.T.

When a woman wears the same dress twice
Then she doesn’t feel chic.
And when she doesn’t feel chic
She feels insecure
Then she can’t sleep at
night then she suffers from
nervous exhaustion then
that could lead to a
nervous breakdown.

The only law she never broke is the law of gravity.

The only security is health and the ability to adjust in life.

Dear Kathy
First of all please forgive me for not answering sooner. I’ve been so involved with my own identity, which has been so vague, and social commitments, basic living procedures and affairs of the heart that for a while I ceased to exist. Except for other people. (…)

25 June 2008 | St. Anna

You know me, I’m usually a fan of the light fare. Most of the time, I’m not excatly excited about WWII movies, but this is Spike Lee we’re talking about. This fall his new movie will be released, Miracle at St. Anna. The trailer has a Spielberg feel to it, including a child in dilemma and a 5 million dollar MacGuffin. I guess its deep.

23 June 2008 | (no title)

So, I went to the openings of Lucie Stahl (thank you & I owe you) at Dependance in Brussels on Thursday and Herr Krebber at Kunstverein Cologne on Friday.

Thursday and Friday, we went to the fish booth. It felt like I had never eaten fresher fish before. “The sale starts July 1st”, said the Margiela shop woman with the (bad) Amy make-up. Sabs and I had an orange juice across the street from the white building. As I’m on sale diet I didn’t buy anything in Brussels, except for a present.

Friday night, Michaela, Viola and I, disguised as Hase und Igel, went to the second bar first. We quickly ordered Schnitzel. There is nothing better than a Schnitzel at 4am. Michaela (bff) said I should take everything else and not just the Merlin wig. I only wanted long hair. “Aber sie hat doch so gern lange Haare.”

Saturday, got some V&R from Heimat (underground).

15 June 2008 | Doc Nancy Is Back

Today, we spent a wonderful afternoon by the river Main. Doc Nancy was in her best mood when she got a ride on the BierBike, helping them cuties to keep the wheels spinning and the juices flowing. Who knew that chillin’ on a barrel could provide so much fun?

In next to no time, Doc Nancy will be back with her mathematical life counseling session. Get your burning questions ready because Doc Nancy will be happy to give you some valuable advice.

10 June 2008 | Hair Hats

Is it a wig? Is it an animal? Is it an animal spirit?
No. It’s hair hats by Nagi Noda. More styles on her website.
You might remember Nagi as a director of music videos or the poodle workout.

06 June 2008 | Bembel Ballet

Back in Frankfurt, I’ve finally overcome my jet lag. Last night we went to the ballet to see “Impressing the Czar” choreographed by William Forsythe in 1988 and now re-introduced under his guidance. It was performed by the Royal Ballet of Flanders, marking the first time this piece was done by another ensemble.
The last part of Czar has the whole troupe dancing in school girl uniforms to repetitive beats and cymbals. Thoughts of Britney Spears came to my mind, with all the male dancers basically being in Britney hit-me-baby-one-more-time drag.

In case you have to get tickets, go to the box office 10 minutes prior to the show and buy your last minute seats. It’s on for 3 more days only.

02 June 2008 | YSL

Before heading back to Germany, I spent the last couple of days in Montreal. The musée des beaux-arts de Montreal had just opened their retrospective to span 40 years of creation of Yves Saint Laurent. I was especially impressed by the 1965 wedding dress which still looks very modern today.
Below are pictures from the show, click to enlarge.

By now you have probably heard that the designer passed away this weekend.
