Yesterday evening saw the premiere of Project Runway Canada, the casting show looking for an innovative new designer. The US-American version of the series is of course hosted by Heidi Klum (which I heard someone refer to as die hohle Kuh). Anyway, the Toronto based designer search is hosted by Iman. The show started with the contestants getting to know each other at the Toronto Islands, where Iman arrived by yacht.
Just by announcing the prizes it became obvious that the Canadian version will be even trashier than south of the border: The winner will present a collection at Toronto Fashion Week and will be able to sell the work at Winners.
Out of the 13 designers, 6 are based out of Toronto, some of them had a lil’ boutique on Queen Street.
I have the feeling that I am going to be a bit addicted to the trashiness. Iman acted like a robot (always a plus), looking totally airbrushed in some of the segment trailers. And I enjoyed her tagline, which she got to use quite often in the first episode as two designers got Auf’d:
“Sometimes in fashion, you just don’t measure up.”
