18 May 2004 | Like The Sunshine
Last week, I finally saw the brilliant Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The film starts in Germany this Thursday, May 20 (with a stupid German title). Go, see it!
The movie is highly romantic, in a different, Michel Gondry way. I was very touched by the ending and then over the credits I got to hear Becks version of "Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometimes". Wonderful.
One of my favourite moments is when Clementine (Kate Winslet) slides on ice and talks to herself: "Slidy, Slidy!".
The title of the film is explained in a scene where Mary (Kirsten Dunst) reads to Dr. Mierzwiak out of "Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations"; the lines are from Alexander Pope’s poem "Eloisa to Abelard":
How happy is the blameless Vestal’s lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d."
